About Us
Born and raised in the suburbs of Bellville in the Western Cape, South Africa, I’ve always been drawn to the art of visual storytelling and the technical craft behind it. My name is Renier de Jager, and I am a camera operator and aspiring cinematographer with a passion for creating impactful, visually engaging content across a range of productions.
My career in film began with a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Television Techniques from City Varsity in Cape Town, where I majored in Post-Production Editing as well as Camera and Lighting Techniques. This foundation gave me both a creative and technical understanding of visual production—skills that continue to shape the way I approach every project.
After completing my degree in 2020, I joined the production team of the local television series Arendsvlei, where I spent over a year working in the camera department. I began as a camera trainee, progressing through the roles of loader and camera assistant, before earning the position of focus puller for B-Cam. This hands-on experience on a fast-paced, professional set provided me with invaluable knowledge of camera systems, set operations, and the collaborative nature of production.
Alongside my work in television, I built experience as a freelance videographer, producing corporate videos, event coverage, and music videos, while also assisting on various independent and passion projects. Over the years, I’ve developed strong working relationships with directors, producers, editors, and production houses, which has allowed me to grow both creatively and professionally within the industry.
These experiences ultimately led to the founding of my own company, Altitude Media Productions, where I continue to pursue my vision of delivering high-quality video content for a wide range of clients. Through Altitude, I’ve had the opportunity to service brands such as McDonald’s and contribute to productions for platforms including kykNET, National Geographic, and Showmax.
Today, I focus on building Altitude Media Productions into a full-service video production company, offering expertise in corporate content, commercial work, and event videography. At the same time, my long-term goal remains to grow as a narrative cinematographer, working on documentaries, music videos, and feature films that tell meaningful and visually compelling stories.
From early work on entry-level DSLRs to large-scale productions using professional cinema cameras, each step of my journey has been a chance to refine my craft and develop a deeper appreciation for the art of cinematography.
This is just the beginning — the best is yet to come.

Do you travel for shoots, or are services limited to a specific area?
We are not limited by location. Altitude Media Productions has delivered projects locally across the Western Cape, nationally throughout South Africa, and internationally in locations such as Macau, Amsterdam, Dubai, and the United States. No distance is too far for us to bring your vision to life.

Can you handle scripting, storyboarding, and creative direction?
Altitude Media Productions primarily focuses on filming and editing. Creative direction is available for high-end commercial projects; however, scripting and storyboarding are not included in our standard services yet. We work closely with clients to ensure that the final output aligns with their vision and objectives.

To begin a project, we recommend arranging a consultation to discuss your objectives, vision, and expectations. A project brief, including timelines and budget information if available, is highly valuable.
